Why We Built This
Afrofuturism has always imagined Black futures the history books tried to erase — bold, technological, mythic, free. For decades that vision lived scattered across comics, galleries, festivals, and hard drives. Afrofuturism.org gathers it into a single home: a widescreen streaming platform where these stories can be watched, discussed, and carried forward.
Unlike platforms built to rent your attention, this one is built to be owned by its audience. Founding Members don't just subscribe — they hold the ground floor of an independent Black-owned network, and every new episode exists because of them.
Built by Dieselfunk Studios
Afrofuturism.org is produced by Dieselfunk Studios, the independent studio founded by Visual Afrofuturist and Glyph Award-winning artist Tim Fielder. Across roughly fifty years, Fielder's work spans comics, animation, film, and games — with credits including Marvel Comics, Tri-Star Pictures, and Ubisoft — and a body of work recognized by NPR, The New York Times, Black Enterprise, and the Schomburg Center.
His graphic novels include INFINITUM (HarperCollins/Amistad), and his work has drawn endorsements from voices as varied as Junot Díaz and Stephen Curry's Unanimous Media book club. The studio's catalog — Matty's Rocket, HighJohn Conqueror, BROTHEROBO, and the Dieselfunk Dispatch — forms the founding library of the Afrofuturism.org universe.
